Have you visited Artisan Whimsy? It’s a new online jewelry group. Now is a good time to check it out, as the Fiber Group’s January 1 blog post is a tutorial about my hand dyed seam binding, and a giveaway! The post is here.
The giveaway is also a challenge. Each participant agrees to make at least one jewelry project and post it on his or her own blog. But the seam binding is great for mixed media and sewing projects, too.
When I dye the seam binding, I always dye extra fibers, too. My favorites are cheesecloth and burlap. I also include some twine and twill tape with almost every batch. I love how embroidery floss and perle cotton come out, too. I’ve also tried silk and rayon velvet. When I did the last couple batches, I had a bunch of dye left over at the end, so I painted it onto some little canvases and a wood panel, to see what would happen. They look good so far, although I’m not sure how I will finish them:
If you don’t want to join Artisan Whimsy and participate in the giveaway, you can find my hand dyed seam binding in several colors in my Etsy shop.
If you do join Artisan Whimsy, you may be chosen to receive five yards of hand dyed seam binding free! See the blog post for details.
