I love vintage linens! And I love to make things with them. But I only sew with cutters (linens that have been damaged in a way that makes them unsuitable for their original use). I made this bracelet from a damaged vintage handkerchief:
Sewing with hankies is a little tricky because they are so delicate. I stabilized the cut edge with seam binding. Actually, I sewed the seam binding in place before I made the cut. The crocheted trim went all the way around the original handkerchief, so stitching on the seam binding before cutting also secured the edging. I didn't take pictures as I worked, but if anyone is interested in a tutorial, I can take pictures next time. I love the way this turned out and I love being able to reuse a little piece of history that would otherwise be discarded, or put in the back of a drawer somewhere. I hope to have some of these at Merchant Square soon, and I will definitely have some at Briar Patch Marketplace in March!
