If you know me, you know I love books. But you may not know that I also love blank books! Here is my newest creation:
Here’s how I made it. I hand dyed a strip of harem cloth (basically, gauze) in shades of grey for an ombre effect. Then I cut the strip into smaller rectangles and stitched them together two at a time, using pale lavender thread, with a zigzag stitch around the edges, to make a stronger page. Then I stacked them up and stitched a strip of hand dyed seam binding and a strip of hand dyed twill tape down the center. I trimmed the edges and now it’s ready for embellishment!
It is ready for sewing, gluing, stitching, pinning and any other technique you can think of. The pages are delicate, but if you need more strength, you can glue or stitch in extra paper or fabric for more stability. You can add any embellishment you like, including ribbon, lace, trims, beads, buttons, paper, millinery flowers, charms, or anything else you can think of!
The book measures approximately 3.5” x 5.75” when closed. There are ten two-sided pages for a total of twenty 3.5” x 5.75” surfaces to alter.
Here are a couple alternate views of the same book:
I have listed this book in my Etsy shop. I'll be making more of these, in other colors. I have dyed fabric in colors that coordinate with my hand dyed seam binding and other trims. And many more are in the planning stages!
If all goes well, I will have some at Art and Soul Vendor Night on June 16th. And, of course, I will have some for the Art Unraveled Shopping Extravaganza on August 4th. If you are going to either of those events and would like to place an order in advance, just let me know!
Back to the cutting table now...

Karen
